Projects: Christening
The Navy christened the submarine John Warner on Saturday in a star-spangled ceremony at Newport News Shipbuilding that paid homage to the elder statesman of Virginia politics and included a hometown flourish. Warner is known as a former Secretary of the Navy and long-time Senator, and has been one of the biggest and most visible champions of the Navy's fleet. He is also the first person to have a Virginia-class sub named after him, and one of very few people ever to have a ship named for them while they were alive.
